APS Senior Project Officer, Alex Beeby specialises in the assessment and analysis of ceramic assemblages (including building materials and fired clay) dating from the Iron Age through to the post-medieval period. Alex works on material from across Eastern England and further afield and has a particular interest in the pottery of the Late Roman period. Recent work has included groups from across the region and beyond, including sites in Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
Alex joined APS in 2009 as a trainee ceramic specialist funded by a Chartered Institute for Archaeologists training bursary and has remained with the organisation since completion. He is an active member of the Study Group for Roman Pottery and Medieval Pottery Research Group as well as a number of other specialist groups and professional organisations.
- identification, analysis and publication of multi-period ceramics;
- recording to an appropriate level in accordance with current guidelines and standards, and
- advice regarding discard policies for large assemblages.
